Garden

This is from the gate walking into the backyard.. there's mulch down.
From the shed looking at the house
From the patio looking at the shed

I'm sooo shocked when I look at these awful before pictures and how ugly the backyard is so for this post I'm not going to put those up. You can scroll down and see how ugly it was! This is the area where the garden is going to go, we decided to do flower boxes with some of the other left over pallets (like what we used for the bar), and with some of the leftover pavers we made a walkway. Right now we just filled this area in with the dirt we displaced doing the patio, and soon we will fill it in with mulch. Here is what it looks like before any flowers or plants are put in (other than the vegetables), but with the walkway and dirt all filled out. Yay!

Tiki Bar

Before

After

I totally forgot to post pictures of the tiki bar! This was made from leftover wood from the deck that we tore down (which I do NOT have pictures of, unfortunately)

Patio

There used to be a small concrete slab outside of the back door. We wanted to do a flagstone patio and make the area a lot larger. We're not done mortaring it yet but here is the progression. (PS: Click on the pictures to see them larger)

New sod!

Okay, so close your eyes and think of one word that describes our backyard.. now open your eyes!

We still have a lot of work to do on the perimeter (that's not going to be grass) but I AM SO EXCITED!

3/29/09 (Backyard)

Got Callie's garden all ready to go! Planted a lot in there, and some of the flowers are going to be pretty big so for now I'm just going to let everything settle and see how they fill in. I'm also going to wait a little bit to mulch until I decide what we're doing with the rest of the yard, that way everything will coordinate. Until then I think I might just use some hay as a substitute.

From back to front: perennial Columbine, strawberries, pink Azalea, Thrift Armeria "Joystick Red' perennial, Geranium annual, Ranunculus, perennial Dianthus 'Eastern Star' Red Dwarf, and the front row is just annual begonias.

I started planting a few things in the front yard. I'm about two weeks early for the frost date, but I had weather.com send me notifications if we're supposed to have frost so that I can cover everything up. I would really like these things to be done before Easter weekend, and I'm very impatient :)

Anyway, I planted a few things in the small spot in front of the slab that's been bugging me since we've moved in. I know it's still pretty bare but I want to put something big in the corner and I don't want them to crowd each other out. I chose the bright mulch because I think it'll look sweet when our tree blooms, and really bring out the colors of each other. Since the house is accented with blue I wanted some blue flowers.

From front to back: Perennial salvia, periwinkle, perennial Lithordora 'Grace Ward'.

Also, I trimmed the lower branches of our tree and mulched around it. Our lawnmower is already broken so :( The lawn will just have to wait!

Front yard, before, #1

Not too much going on out here, although it's not gross like the back ;)
